Pan African Cotton Meeting 2011

The objective of the Pan African Cotton Meeting 2011 is to define a Road Map for the cotton sector in Africa for the next 10 years, based on the following priorities:

  • Increasing productivity
  • Improving marketing
  • Increasing value addition

This initiative will build on the existing national and regional strategies for the cotton sectors, as well as the EU-Africa Partnership Action Framework on cotton.

The meeting will bring together representatives of regional economic communities, government officials, producer organizations, national industries, and international buyers, as well as development partners from international and bilateral organizations.

Due to the restricted number of places, it is advised to register before the 1st June.

Commodities at a Glance

Commodites at a glanceGiven the recent record rises in cotton prices and wider commodity price volatility, this edition of Commodities at a glance (n°2), will focus on the world cotton industry, with a special emphasis on African cotton producing countries.

Who Should Attend?

High-level government officials in charge of commerce, industry and agriculture, corporate leaders involved in the production, trading, financing and distributing of cotton and textiles, representatives of international organisations, authoritative experts, academics and NGOs specializing in cotton issues.

All are requested to inform the UNCTAD secretariat of the names of their representatives by 1st June 2011. Costs associated with participation must be covered by the participants themselves.

The organizers remain open to any offers of sponsorship of the meeting.

The meeting was initiated by the UNCTAD in partnership with the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC), the Secretariat of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), the Steering Committee of the European Union - Africa Partnership (COS-Coton) and the Government of Benin.
