MOZ/0T/7AB - Support to the Mozambique horticultural sector
Increase export market access opportunities for key stakeholders – farmers, traders, policy makers, technicians and exporters – in the Mozambican horticultural sector through building capacity activities for them to meet GlobalGAP and Organic standards.

 

INT/0T/4AF - Selected commodity issues in the context of trade and development
Assist commodity-dependent developing countries, particularly LDCs address SPS compliance costs and meet agrifood safety standards and quality requirements imposed in export markets of interest to these countries.

 

INT/0T/5BQ / SPS/A - Model for the development of a public-private food safety control systems for horticultural exports - Guinée
Assist the Government of Guinée develop a national safety control system for its horticultural export sector.

 

The key objectives of the project are to (i) establish a safety management expert force to assist companies implementing safety control systems; (ii) to establish a public inspection force for the horticultural sector; (iii) to develop a national certification body by training private/public auditors, and to implement safety management systems in four pilot farms and obtain their certification by international standard bodies; and (iv) to set up GuineaGap website to disseminate project information in order to allow replication of the model.

 

INT/0T/7BE - All ACP Agricultural Commodity Programme (AAACP)
The EU-funded EUR 45 million project All ACP Agricultural Commodities Programme (AAACP) aims to strengthen commodity chain stakeholders’ capacity to develop and implement sustainable commodity strategies that improve farmers’ productivity and livelihoods and reduce income vulnerability.

 

The programmes main objectives are to; (i) Support the participatory formulation and implementation of commodity strategies; (ii) Promote efforts to develop regional markets, policies and services in support of commodity sector; (iii) Support consolidation and diversification initiatives; and (iv) Extend access to market-based commodity risk management instruments.


 
UNCTAD makes four interventions – under the AAACP – in selected beneficiary ACP countries, namely, (i) market information systems including information on prices, technology, marketing chains and economic policies; (ii) commodity finance (including warehouse receipt systems and review of regulatory frameworks); (iii) commodity exchanges (including support to development of physical commodity exchanges, facilitation and enhancement of human capital), and (iv) sustainability claims portal (including information on sustainable agriculture labels and agrifood standards, enhanced accountability, food laws and technical regulations).

 

INT/9X/9C2 - L’intelligence économique au service des plus démunis
Le but de ce projet est de mettre en place un partenariat pour compulser, adapter et disseminer de maniere originale un produit utile sur les differentes filieres, facettes strategiques, informationnelles, organisationnelles et economiques propres aux matieres premières. Le produit final consistera en une fiche signaletique par produit dispensant une analyse intelligente, utile et complète de toutes les filieres, variables endogenes et exogenes influencant le monde des produits de base.

 

Un acces a une analyse de fond a forte valeur ajoutee pour mieux conseiller et assister les pays en developpement, en particulier les PMA. En effet, force est de constater que l'information disponible dans ce domaine est d'une qualité inégale et ne répond pas toujours pleinement aux attentes des différents operateurs. Elle consiste le plus souvent davantage a chiffré les impacts d'événements passes et en cours, qu'a mettre a disposition les données nécessaires a une analyse sinon prospective, du moins plus éclairée de l'ensemble des questions. En outre, il existe une forte dichotomie et asymétrie de l'information a forte valeur ajoutee qui par définition n'est pas facilement accessible ou a couts prohibitifs pour les PMA. Le but de ce projet est de mettre en place un partenariat pour compulser, adapter et disseminer de maniere originale un produit utile sur les differentes filieres, facettes strategiques, informationnelles, organisationnelles et economiques propres aux matieres premières. RAF/0T/3AR - Improvement of the sustainability of cotton production in West Africa
This project aims to improve the sustainability of cotton production, and to enhance small-scale farmers' income from export oriented cotton production in West and Central Africa, through policy oriented research and capacity building, with particular focus to input supply systems in the context of liberalization and privatization in the sector.

 

The project identifies key areas of intervention by the different players in the market (governments, farmers, user organization and private sector). Appropriate attention is given to determine the environmental impact of increased fertilizer use by farmers, and alternatives are assessed.

 

Focus countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali and Togo.

To enable enterprises in commodity dependent countries to adapt their export diversification strategies and business practices to market requirements, e.g. forestry - enhance collaboration with specialized agencies including FAO, ITTO, UNECE Timber Committee, etc.
